Also known as: Green, K, special K, super K, vitamin K.

Looks like: Legally produced ketamine for use as a medical anaesthetic comes in liquid form. The illegally produced version usually comes as a grainy white powder.

How it is taken: Liquid form is injected. Powder form is snorted.

The effects: Anaesthetic. Can cause perceptual changes like LSD, in addition to its effects on reducing bodily sensation. Small doses can cause numbness and the feeling of being outside your body.

Downside: Can increase risk of accidental injury because you don't feel any pain. High doses can dangerously suppress breathing and heart function. Can be very dangerous when mixed with other depressant drugs (such as alcohol). Can cause high blood pressure, which can be particularly dangerous when mixed with drugs like Ecstasy or amphetamines. Can cause panic attacks and depression. If high enough doses are taken, the anaesthetic effect can result in death.
