Amphetamine
Also known as: Speed, Base, Billy, Speed, Sulphate, Whiz.
Looks like: Whitish powder but also comes in different colours because it is often "cut", or mixed with, other substances. Often sold in small packets of folded paper called "wraps" or small sealed plastic bags.
How it is taken: Snorted. Dissolved in liquid and drunk. Injected. Rubbed over the gums. Wrapped in paper (bombs) and swallowed.
The effects: Can speed up nervous system including heartbeat and breathing.Pupils may grow large. The user may experience loss of appetite. The user may feel confident, energetic and talkative.
Downside: Some users may feel tense and anxious. May cause tiredness due to lack of sleep and food. Long term heavy use may complicate mental illness. Long term use can also strain the heart.
