Heroin
Also known as: Brown, Gear, H, Scag, Smack.
Looks like: Brownish powder sold in packets of folded paper called ‘wraps’.
How it is taken: Smoked, snorted or injected.
The effects: Can relax the brain and may slow down the heartbeat. Small doses may create feelings of warmth and well being. In larger doses the user may feel drowsy, numb and relaxed.
Downside: Addictive, even if just smoked. Users who become addicted may need to take the drug just to feel normal. Injecting can damage veins. Injecting can cause a risk of Hepatitis B or C and HIV from sharing injecting equipment.
